Early January Snow in Austria?

Can anyone tell me which resort has almost definately got snow 7th January week. Looking also for a town like Kitzbuhel (so with character) not just a purpose-built ski resort. We have a 1 year old also, so need to keep him happy too... Any suggestions welcome.

For general travel %26amp; ski reports check out www.tiscover.at. For a resort try Schladming (1 hour SE of Salzburg). For accommodation with a 1 year old look at www.kinderhotels.com or www.farmholidays.com.

We went to Zell am See 10th January 2004 and there was lots of snow,it was super, maybe we were just lucky! One of the reasons we chose Zell was because it is close to Kaprun and we reasoned that if there was a shortage of snow we could catch the bus to Kaprun (only a short bus ride away) and ski on the glacier there. The area lift pass covers both Zell and Kaprun.

My brother and his family were with us, their children were aged 6 and 3 at the time. We found plenty to do with them ie: sports centre with nice swimming pool, feeding the ducks and swans on the lake, sledging in Schuttdorf (just up the road, can take a bus there 2KM included in lift pass)having a nice beer in a cosy, child friendly stubl etc. There is also good train service to Salzburg and Innsbruck.

All in all a lovely resort with fantastic scenery, a characterful town centre and a beautiful lake.

Good Luck
