Help - Family members flying into Vienna (first visit for them to Austria)from the USA arriving 20H55 on the 24th December. Where can we take them in Vienna to celebrate the last hours of Christmas Eve and what is there to do on Christmas Day ? What time do the Christmas markets close on the 24th ? I thought of booking everyone into a hotel in Vienna for the night of the 24th - hotel with a Christmas theme (Christmas tree, decorations etc) and then on Christmas Day we could have a Christmas brunch but I cant find hotels advertising Christmas day functions on the Web.

Check out www.salzburg.info. Good website for getting info on christmas markets etc, trips, hotels etc. I got a huge list of hotels doing dinner etc from here but not a clue which to choose so if you here anything that%26#39;s been recommended. Please pass on the info.

I assume you mean Christmas in Vienna and not Salzburg as prior poster gave info on a Salzburg website.
At that time at night 20H55 24 December most everything is closed in Vienna as this is the Traditional Evening for Celebrations.
The Christmas markets would all be closed by 17 - 18 H.
About the only thing I could suggest would be a traditional Church Service( many begin about 23h) with music- but these are normally very crowded in the city.
Most all major center city hotels would be well decorated for the Holiday.
It is probably best to check directly with the hotel for more information.
I believe the Christmas Market at Schonbrunn Palace is open on Christmas Day ( the only one I think )A very nice place with a large Christmas Tree in the middle and nice music.
Many restaurants are open on the 25th.
A nice walk in the city center will find lighted decorations and many families out for a nice walk.
Sorry, I can not suggest restaurnts as I am used to a day with family then.

Thank you for the information on Schonbrunn. On the Schronbrunn webpage I read the market is open from 10.00 am on the 25th. Now I am looking for a 3 star or 4 star hotel within walking distance to Schonbrunn. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Probably closesest is the Park Hotel Schonbrunn. This is an older hotel( most areas renovated.
Location is across the street from the gardens of Schonbrunn. A 10 minute walk maximum through the gardens to the Palace and Market.
The hotel is in the 13th district and is near to major transportation to city center ( subway U-4). A nice Church and series of shops nearby too.
