Choosing Hotels in Linz

I%26#39;ll be in Linz for a week in March for a athletic event at the Intersport Arena. My budget is up to 100 Euros a night. What hotel would you recommend for comfort and quiet?

Hi!

Of how many stars do you think? Is a good connection to public transport important to you?

For what it%26#39;s worth, last month we found the Ibis (opposite the railway station) to be clean, functional, with very tiny rooms, but a courteous and highly accommodating staff. (The ultramodern architecture resembles how Hollywood might depict a prison cellblock, but architecture may not be a major factor for your purposes.) Only our need to take a very early morning train kept us from choosing one of the several charming older hotels in the center.

Thanks for your replies.

I%26#39;m looking for three star and above and was considering the Arcohotel Nike, Hotel Wolfinger, and Landgraf. Access to public transportation is important, but not vital.

My main concerns are comfort and quiet so I can rest up for my competition.

Any good restaurants you can recommend. Italian comes to mind.

I stayed at the Landgraf hotel for nearly a month at the beginning of 2005. Because of the length of our stay at the hotel we were given (without us requesting it)one of the large side rooms. This room was light and airy with many windows. Definately the room to ask for if you choose to stay at the hotel. The room was well furnished and clean. Outside the hotel there is a tramstop and bus stop. The tram goes over the Danube bridge into the shopping area (about 2 minutes away) and then to the train station (about 7 minutes away by tram). Often I walked to the station because Linz is such a lovely place to walk through. We found plenty of good restaurants (including an Italian restaurant)within walking distance from our hotel and some of the restaurants face the Danube giving a real pretty view while eating. On occassions we bought take-out pizza slices (really good tasting pizzas) from a kiosk next door to the hotel. The hotel has a bar downstairs and we noticed most weekend nights the bar was packed but from our room we couldnt hear the noise. We could also walk from the hotel to a pathway beside the Danube. Here we joined other joggers running next to the river. All in all we had a very pleasant stay at the Landgraf.

I endorse the previous comments about the Ibis but I have also stayed at the Courtyard Marriot, which is 4 star and has excellent facilities.

The Marriot would be more expensive but you could try your luck and ask if they give discounts to athletes!
