Antique shops and jewelry shops

Hi, I will be in Vienna and Salzburg in the beginning of December. We will not be there over a weekend so we will not be able to go to the naschmarkt. We are looking for antique shops and jewelry shops. Also I am looking for anyplace that would sell crystal rhinestones to repair vintage costume jewelry. That would be loose rhinestones in quantity, I thought with swavorski crystal being right there that perhaps there would be shops carrying this sort of thing. Thank you for any help!!!

Vienna has many and varied antique and jewelry shops.

Some of the best are found in a relatively small area of the First District or %26quot; Center of the City.%26quot;

The area is not far from the Hofburg ( Imperial Palace) on streets running toward Graben( a pedestrian Zone area of good shops) such as Habsburgergasse, Dorotheergasse, Stallburgasse and several others.

Just wander around these small streets and %26quot; Window shop%26quot;

You will find several good shops with antique jewelry there too. Ask about a shop that has your rhinestones.

In addition, Swarowski has their own retail shop on Kartnerstrasse (First District) You may want to go there too. I have seen rhinestones scattered about in their displays there. Perhaps they sell them in bulk.

One good place often overlooked by tourists, is the old Auction House the Dorotheum, on of course Dorotherergasse.

THey have many articles for open sale in addition to numerous auctions.

Go to the second floor to view these open sale things from jewelry to old furniture at good prices

Their website

www.dorotheum.at in english too for more information and a listing of auction dates and on-line catalogues.

Actually there is a Fleamarket at the end of the Naschmarket on Saturday mornings so maybe you will be able to catch that (easiest to reach via ubahn to Kettenbruckegasse on the U4). There%26#39;s also a small market on the Am Hof and at the Freyung (Am Hof has a couple of old antique jewellery type things) in the centre of the city.

Vertical%26#39;s advice is always spot-on so you can try that area which has many tempting goodies - there%26#39;s also a very lovely antique jewellery store in a passage running between the Wollzeile and Backerstrasse - it%26#39;s next to Figlmuller the famous schnitzel restaurant so easy to find! I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s open Saturdays, though (and in Vienna, all shops are shut Sundays except the museums and a few tourist shops).

Quite close to Figlmuller there is, from memory, a store selling beads and crystals and crafty stuff that might be just what you need for your jewllery repair. It%26#39;s on the Kollnerhofgasse running between the Fleischmarkt and Lugeckplatz, a block east of the Rotenturmstrasse.

is jolly handy for finding stuff in the inner city.
