Train is your best bet. Check the web site of the OBB (Oestereichische Bundesbahn) for schedules.

Thanks Treplow!.... I am thinking of going to Vienna than striaght off to Innsbruck and do salzburg if i have the time would it be expensive to travel from Vienna to Innsbruck via train?

I will be in London for the christmas period and waht do you think will be the best way to make a trip to Innsbruck. The flights to salzburg seems to be more expenisve than flights to Vienna...Thanks!

for rail timetables, have a look at http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/en

No trains between Vienna-Salzburg-Innsbruck will be effected by the floods.

The single fare Wien Westbf - Innsbruck Hbf. is

2nd class

1 pax. € 49 2 pax. € 75,50 3 pax. € 101,00 4 pax € 126,50 ...

1st class

1 pax. € 79,50 2 pax. € 121,30 3 pax. € 162 4 pax € 202,80...

Some trains (called ÖBB-EC) also offer 1st Class Business (which are compartments with just 4 seats, welcome drink) for 1st class fare + 15 € per person.

But if you don%26#39;t want to spend much money on little difference, 2nd class will be fine. No need to buy tickets in advance, usually no need to reserve seats.

Thanks Robbie..that kinda settles all the transportation. I have looked around for some places to stay and found that Ibis Innsbruck seems not too bad but there is a total of 3 of us travelling. Do hotels over there provide additional beds?

Or do you have any recommendation for good hostels/hotels in Innsbruck?....THanks

If you are coming from London consider flying into Munich rather than Vienna, as it is much closer to both Salzburg and Innsbruck. At the Munich airport you could buy the Bayern-Ticket (Bavaria-Ticket), which would be valid for travel on the S-Bahn (S-1 or S-8) from the airport to the main train station, connecting to a local train to Innsbruck via Garmish and Mittenwald. The ticket is restricted to RE and RB “ local” trains but up to 5 people travel together for just 26 € total. The train fare from Mittenwald onward to Innsbruck is 7.60 € each. Three people could travel from the Munich airport to Innsbruck for a total of 48.80 €.

You might consider making Munich your base and visiting Innsbruck and Salzburg from there because the Bayern-Ticket can also be used to travel round trip to Salzburg from Munich at no additional cost. Three people could travel round trip from Munich to Salzburg for 26 €.

Again, the ticket is restricted to RE and RB “local” trains which will take a little longer but they go on the same tracks at a substantial cost savings. Information about the ticket is at: bahn.de/-S:PtVORd:d9E-jtNNYyadcNNNNPIM/p/vie…

Use the DB website to search schedules for RE and RB trains from München Hbf to Salzburg and München Hbf to Innsbruck via Mittenwald. http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
