New Years

Any must do%26#39;s while we are in Vienna for New Years Eve? We will be there for 4 days total, leaving on January 1st for Budapest.

Many streets are closed in the center of Vienna as it is turned into one big party area.

Many food and drink stands will line the streets.

Many squares will have different types of music starting in the afternoon. You can even take Waltz lessons at the Rathaus ( City Hall )

Look on the street for information booths that will provide and map and schedule of all events.

You can easily walk to all things- but later in the evening it does get crowde.

Probably 750,000 to one million people depending on the weather.

Fireworks at Stephensdom ( city center Church )at midnight

A warning - some visitors set off their own fireworks at midnight nesr Stephensdom. They can come near the crowd. Some like to avoid this area just then.

You can buy your own bottles of %26quot; Whatever at the markets, such as Billa- and drink it during the Fest

Much cheapern than drinks on the street!

Look to other posts on this site for other places of interest in Vienna.

Several formal Balls are held New Years - one at the Hofburg is rather expensive- one at Palais Ferstal less so.

Enjoy the festivities!
