Contact/Reservations for Oberlaa restaurant/sweets near St...

I highly recommended the Oberlaa sweetshop/restaurant to a friend, knowing his requirements. Upon that recommendation he has tried to contact the Oberlaa sweetshop/restaurant to make reservations for his large group for the evening of the 22nd of Dec. in Vienna. The shop is diagonally across from the Ambassador Hotel down on/just off of the Kaerntner Strasse. He located the website for the restaurant, but hasn%26#39;t been able to contact them. On their annual trip they have had a terrible time getting about 15 people seated at once, so he simply won%26#39;t do without a reservation. Does anyone have a viable way to contact them for dinner arrangements?

Thank you in advance for all of your collective help!

Your Oberlaa location is on NeuerMarkt- a large square,

But Oberlaa is not really a restaurant but rather a cafe that sells excelent chocolate candy, pastry and cakes. In my opinion some of the best cake in Vienna.

They have table service but I think menu is limited.

They are not open late in the evening - perhaps 7 or 8 PM.

Their phone number calling from America including your international dialing code and austrian country code

0114315132936

Good luck!

Vertical,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I am so greatful to have a network that allows me to reach the otherwise unreachable!

Do you imagine a problem getting seated at around 6:30 due to crowds?

I will pass this info on as soon as this is posted.

We have family that is going to Austria next year. The youth who is going wants to see %26quot;flowers%26quot; in the mountains. Where and when can they go that isn%26#39;t TOO difficult, but would be an addition to their trip to see such a thing?

They are currently planning to go to Vienna and Saltzburg. This will be a 7-10 day trip, depending on cost. Suggestions are welcome.

Lastly, any thoughts on value of being there for Motzart%26#39;s anniversary things (Sept.)Vs the advantage of being there Spring or Summer of %26#39;07? Weather comparisions?

Again THANK YOU, Vertical, and all who respond!

Yes, Oberlaa closes at 7pm which always inconveniences me, especially in the summer when I%26#39;m on the ransack for an Eis Becher!

There are loads of restaurants close by that might suit. I%26#39;m not sure what particularly you were after from Oberlaa - the cakes or the comparatively light cafe-style meals? Possible cafe-style alternatives with later opening hours (till 11pm) might be Cafe Diglas - it%26#39;s a bit of a walk away (other side of St Stephens, on the Wollzeile) but worth the trek (see www.diglas.at). Or Cafe Frauenhuber in the Himmelpfortgasse just off the Karntnerstrasse (see www.tourist-net.co.at/coffee/frauen1.htm) As featured (briefly) in Lilian Faschinger%26#39;s novel, Vienna Passion, which always makes me laugh. I%26#39;m not sure if either place accomodates large parties but they might respond to an enquiry.

Have you eaten a dinner at Oberlaa? As I mentioned in my prior post, this is not really a restaurant.

As your intended date is so near to Christmas, I think Oberlaa would be full of Christmas shoppers on their way home at 6:30.

They would be stopping for a cake and coffee etc.

In addition the counter would be full of people buying pastry to take home.

Call them to be certain they would serve a meal to your liking and will take a reservation for a large group at that time. I would think that it would be unlikely, but worth a try.

As an alternative

two places within walking distance 5-10 minutes away- full restaurants with a full menu and private areas for groups.

Gosser Bierklinik

Steindigassse 4

www.goesser-bierklinik.at

or

Wegensteins

Elisabethstrasse 53

www.goesserbraeu.com

Good food beer and wine. They are accustomed to groups of all sizes and could easily cope with these numbers.

Both take reservations

the websites will show the situations, menu and tell more than I can put in here.

Regarding your other questions-

To me ,the Mozart Year is an excelent marketing tool. But most things included in this effort are found yearly with the exception of extra performances of the music by Mozart. If you are a big Mozart fan, I suppose it is worth the visit then.

Spring and early summer are very nice times to visit- fewer people .

Blooming flowers to be found everywhere.

In Vienna- very nice gardens at Schonbrunn Palace, Belvedere Palace, the Volks Garden, Stadt Park offer all types of flowers.

I can give you more information knowing your planned areas to visit.

I did have a most delicious meal at Oberlaa 2 years ago about mid December. I had the venershnitzl(Can you tell that I%26#39;ve never had German?!), potatoes, a salad, and simply couldn%26#39;t decide between two deserts, so I had them both. The waitress was amused ~ so was I; I rarely ever have one desert! Hence my recommendation in addition to the convenient location.

Thank you, re Mozart. That was exactly the kind of concern that I had. Is there a month that is particularly beautiful, or rain free, or in which it is ideal to see Austria because of the availability of sights and lack of tourists? I should be specific in saying that she wants to go to Vienna, Saltzberg, and the Alps. But I guess that that is really fairly vague. She/they really don%26#39;t know where to go in the Alps yet, so suggestions are certainly welcome! In fact if you have other location or city ideas they are all welcome both generally and specificly. She/they are in the earlier stages of planning.

If you will both excuse my brevity here, I am almost late to an appointment for the evening, but will post in more detail tomorrow afternoon/evening(US-EST).

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your(collective) answers. It%26#39;s a huge help. Thus far I have arranged to make the phone call to Oberlaa tomorrow Austrian afternoon with a friend of mine who lived in Europe until a couple of years ago. His German is extremely fleuent. That way if I have a linguistic problem my solution is present.

Until tomorrow then,

Sorry for the double send.

Today I called Oberlaa and have made reservations for the specified evening. Since the group that is going will not be available until closer to closing time, they will send an order by email in advance so that everything will be ready upon arrival, the kitchen can close, and the group can still get their own individual deserts. So everything will be perfect thanks to Vertical%26#39;s rescue with the direct phone number, overseas and country code included. Many thanks! The other suggested restaurants from Vertical and Roley are going into my Vienna file for future reference. I know that they will come in handy!

I%26#39;ve reviewed the previous posts and realized that I really don%26#39;t have any additional information, even after speaking to the youth who is going. I know that I need to sit down and look through things, but I admit to being stimied about which month would be the best in which to go to see the varied places.

Thank you for your time and help already,
