Day trip from Innsbruck

Could anyone please advise a nice day trip from innsbruck perhaps to the mountains?

Stubai Glacier. A summer and winter resort.

Look at www.stubaiaustria.com

Patscherkofel is one possibility. It%26#39;s real close by and offers nice views.

If you wish to remain in the Innsbruck area, you can use the Innsbruck Card for one uphill and downhill ride [providing you are not carrying winter sports equipment] to the top of Patscherkofel, to the top of Nordkette by way of the Hungerburg Funicular Railway and to the top of the Axamer Lizum via the Olympiabahn Funicular Railway. Patscherkofel and Nordkette are just SE and N of town and could be done in 1 day. Tram J runs from the old town along Museumstraße to Igls and the end of the line at the Patscherkofelbahn. Tram #1 also runs along Museumstraße; go to the end of the line turn-around at the north end of town and across the street to the Hungerburg building. Axamer Lizum is a bus ride to the west of town.

Get the 2 or 3-day Innsbruck Card. Information is at: www.innsbruck-tourismus.com/…

A pdf map of the Tram system can be downloaded from: www.ivb.at/fpl_static/fpl_liniennetzplan.php

A good overview map of the Innsbruck area is at: www.holidaze.com/images/innsbruckmap.jpg

Longer day trips to Garmisch-Partenkirchen or Salzburg would also be feasible. Travel time to Garmisch-Partenkirchen is 1h 24m and the one-way 2nd class fare is 11.90 €. Time to Salzburg is 1h 59m and the one-way 2nd class fare is 33.60 €. Use the DB website to find schedules. http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

The two towns are obviously very different. Garmish is smaller but similar to Innsbruck while Salzburg is much smaller and more like Vienna.
