any suggestion for good hotel near the town hall. Thanks

Many like the Hotel Altstadt. Not far from the Rathaus probably the closest( City Hall)

It is also convenient to the

shopping area Mariahilf, Museum Quartier

.

However the Rathaus is easily reached by the streetcar lines 1, 2 and D making it close to any hotel on or near the Ringstrasse- such as Hilton Plaza, De France ( one stop away) Le Meridien, Opernring, Grand , Bristol,Imperial among others.
