I am booked on a Trafalgar tour next summer. We will be in Vienna for 3 nights. They give us some free time and I want to shop with my free time and go to a cafe. Any suggestions of where I sould go??
Also I am staying at Hilton Danube which I know is really not near the city center. Any suggestions on what is the best way to get from the hotel to shopping? I am afraid cabs will be very costly!

You are correct when you say that the Hilton Danube is not near the city center.
I believe that the hotel has a shuttle bus that connects to a sister Hilton , the Hilton Plaza closer to the city center ( on the Ringstrasse near Schottentor). from there you can walk a short disance to Schottentor and take the Bus 1A to the main shopping corner at Graben and Kohlmarkt.Or the center is about a 15 minute walk from the Hilton Plaza.
Or from the Hilton Danube a short walking distance to the streetcar #21 -take it to the Prater then take the U-bahn- U-1 to the city center.probably 20-30 minutes transfer time.
This stop is at Kartnerstrasse and Graben - some major shopping there.
Ticket one way is 1.50 euros for streetcar and u-bahn.
Taxis in Vienna are all metered - you will not be overcharged but your hotel being some distance would be relativelxy costly - perhaps 15 euros- but have never taken one there- do not know for certain.
Cafes- Griensteidl- across from the Hofburg Palace on Michaelerplatz; Demels on Kohlmarkt;
Cafe Central on Herrengasse- a 5 minute walk from Kohlmarkt , Cafe Diglas
But , the hotel has a nice view of the Danube!
