I%26#39;m thinking Vienna will be my next target and I have a few questions. I am looking for a good budget hotel or B %26amp; B in a good area. I will be walking or taking public transport to the sites, so centrally located is best. Are there any NO GO areas for a middle aged women traveling alone? A night?
Also, how many days do I need to see Vienna at a relaxed speed? Suggestions for day trips out? Any general tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks all for help with my first trip to Vienna. I%26#39;m sure I will be in this forum often.
I love TA.

if you want to be on the safiest sight
don´t choose the area around Prater and Westerbahnhof
There are several nice hotels and pension in the 4-9th district. If you stay close to an underground station then coming home later isn´t a problem. Give yourself at least 4 days so you can see the main sights without pressure.
You find good information on the tourisbord of Vienna:

I would suggest staying in the first district (postcode 1010) just because most of the main sites are concentrated there, and it%26#39;s easy to walk between them since distances are short, and things like restaurants are right to hand. I always stay there are there are a fair range of hotels, including some more moderately-priced places.
Generally Vienna feels safe to this middle-aged woman who travels alone! Middle-aged and older women are quite visible there - dining alone in restaurants, going to concerts alone; one doesn%26#39;t feel conspicuous.
Four or five days would be a good time to see some of the city - maybe opt for five if you decide to take a day trip out of the city, such as a trip to the Wachau (Melk abbey, Danube etc).
The events database on the tourist information site recommended by Hu San Niang is particularly helpful if you want to schedule your trip round some concerts etc. It also has information about special exhibitions in the art galleries, Christmas markets etc so it%26#39;s a good place to start.

I agree with Roley about finding a Pension ( B and B) in the First District.
For a short visit it provides a perfect base for sightseeing, shopping, attending opera, concerts etc.
4 days is OK
Buy a three day ticket for transport on all public transport. Vienna transport is an easy and safe way to see things.
No worry to travel alone at night
Look on this site for information on places to see.
I would also suggest an evening at a concert, opera or operetta.
The Vienna museums are some of the best and worth a visit.
Many people overlook the Belvedere Palace and
Liechtenstein Palace. Excelent art exhibits - but also wonderful buildings.
The Belvedere also with a fantastic garden.

Thanks again.

I just got back from Vienna and stayed at the K+K Hotel Maria Theresia Hotel in the Spittelberg district. It%26#39;s modern in decor, very clean, good breakfasts, free internet computer in the lobby and in good area - quiet, but near tons. We walked everywhere. 4 days is fine. Have fun!
