Please advise hotel in Ischgl

My friend and I are looking to go skiing in Austria, Ischgl. But we know nothing about hotels/guest houses there. Does anybody have any recomendations on hotels/guest houses to stay (***)? We%26#39;re planning the trip to be on January 2.

Thanks!

We were in Ischgl last year, and we stayed at the Solaria. It is a 4-star, food, room and service great. It is also a close walk to the lift.

If you want a more part atmosphere, the Elisabeth hotel gets good results as well--it is right at the bottom of the lift.

As the other response states: The Elizabeth is a great option for %26quot;Fall off the piste straight into the bar%26quot; skiing. Alternatively you can try the Madlein which is the Elizabeth%26#39;s slightly posher sister hotel.

One of the hotels I stayed in and really enjoyed was the Alpenrose. Very close to the lifts, cheap, decent food (Half-board) and a really preasant atmosphere. Doesn%26#39;t have too much in the way of facilities though.

What is more important in Ischgl I feel is which end of the resort you stay at. The Hotel Elizabeth end has a fun - but not OTT apres-ski. The other end of the resort (Silvrettabahn end) is a bit more boistrous. Both good fun in their own right.

Hotel Elizabeth %26#39;Ice Bar%26#39; is - in my humble opinion - the best Apres-Ski.

Also - if you%26#39;re arranging your own bookings then it invariably works out MUCH cheaper to fly into Munich and hire a car than fly into Innsbruck. OK - it%26#39;s a 3 hour drive rather than a 1.5 hour drive at the far end but your flights will be about 200 per head cheaper ! Innsbruck is a con.

Doverman;

We are going back to Ischgl again this year, and will be flying into Munich.

We cannot find public transportation from Munich to Ischgl (other than booking the whole trip through an agency.

I suppose we could rent a car...

Ischgl is a top quality resort with prices to match but it is our favourite of 15 years around the Alps.

Hotels Madlein / Elizabeth is the kind of area that you want to be in. We have also stayed at Alpenrose nearby which is basic but fine, otherwise recommend Jagerhof, Stefanie or Dorfschmiede. The connecting underground walkway make all of these the best area. The other side, to the West, is not so good (near Trofana Royal).

Apres ski at Elizabeth Hotel %26quot;Schatzi%26quot; ice bar is superb and definitely the best but get there early (3.30/4ish). Later on you can go to Coyote Ugly / Pascha night club inside Hotel Madlein but both just about manage to avoid seediness!

Innsbruck is an expensive place to fly to and Munich is much cheaper but it can take as much as 6 hours on a busy Saturday to get to Ischgl from Munich.

There is a taxi company that will collect you from both airports (www.taxi-ischgl.com, or similar)....but its expensive unless there are at least 6 of you travelling.

I have heard reports of people flying to Freidrichshaven / Klagenfurt but this seems crazy.

Enjoy - its a great place. Hope this helps.

Hy,

We are about 14 friends and we have to find something cheaper in Ischhl, only with breakfast or with self-cuttering. Do you know where do I have to write an email so all the private owners can see it? Do you know a particular place?

Teamnord:

If you fly into Munich you can either get the train down to Landeck (then a cab up to the resort) or hire a car. If you book the car in advance through www.holidayautos.co.uk you can normally get a pretty good rate.

Have a look through my other postings - I put some other info about hiring cars in Munich in there. Shouldn%26#39;t take you longer than 3.5 hours to drive down, and it%26#39;s a beautiful drive!

You can print off all the directions you need from the RAC Routeplanner (http://rp.rac.co.uk/routeplanner) - go from Freising (Germany) to Ischgl (Austria). Or you could check out www.skihoppa.com

Hope you have a great holiday.

Not wanting to make this more difficult than it seems, there are literally 100%26#39;s of places you can stay in Ischgl which really comes down to how much you want to pay. The old adage you pay for what you get certainly rings true in Ischgl. If youre travelling on strong currency then the choices are endless but if like me you are at the other end of financial spectrum then squeezing every dollar to find the %26quot;best%26quot; deal is always going to require better research. There are two great websites www.ischgl.at and www.ishgl.com that have a mountain of information on where to stay including numerous package deals(usually 7 nights with 6 days VIP ski pass). The previous contributors have mentioned a number of great places at the upper end of the spectrum, all of which provide excellent facilities, great location etc etc. I would like to suggest an alternative, Pensions and Private Accomodation. If your looking for a trully Austrian experience then holidaying with the locals in an almost ski club setting can be amazing fun, plus you are more likely to find the best, cheapest (sometimes free) deals for apreski via local knowledge. Check the websites out, they are well worth it. Good Luck.

We stayed twice last year at the Almhof which backs onto the siveretta bahn and right next to all the Apres Ski and restaurants %26amp; bars. It is central but also quiet. Excellent breakfast, wellness centre and the rooms are large and comfy. It is classed as a 4 star Garni. They will also sort out ski passes. All round excellent hotel in a great location. Web site is www.almhof-ischgl.at. Have fun......

I can also recommend Stefanie or Dorfschmiede, have stayed in both. They are central, friendly and new.
