Fuschl Am See

Hello - I have just booked a trip to Lake Fuschl and wonder if anyone has been and can give me some insight as to what is there - are there any lifts to go up the mountains nearby? Is there a good transport system - I won%26#39;t have a car - is there anywhere I can visit nearby?? ( I am going by coach)

I am staying at Hotel Schutzenhoff.....if anyone has been I would love it if you could tell me whether you had an enjoyable time - (if it was horrible, I would rather not know as I have already booked now!)

Thankyou in advance.

Hi! You can, just for example, visit the city of Salzburg, go to Bad Ischl.... for timetables just have a look at

http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/en

%26quot;Fuschl am See Ortsmitte%26quot; will be the bus stop in the centre of Fuschl.

For information about Fuschl, have a look at www.fuschlseeregion.com or www.tiscover.at/fuschl (there is a button for the english version at the top of the page)

Relax you will have a great time. I go to the Hotel Stefanihof in Fuschl every second year. The lack of car is no problem as there is a cheap frequent and reliable local bus service. Salzburg is only 20 minutes away by the bus and once there everywhere is in easy walking distance. Go to Wolfgangsee, have a cruise on the lake and take the fenicular railway up the mountain, there is also a cable car up another mountain which runs all year. The bus wil take you to many other small towns none of which are over an hour away. When you go to Salzburg book a coach tour, lots available from Sound of Music, lakes, or a visit to the Czech Republic (very cheap beer).

There is not much nightlife in Fuschl other than the cafes and hotel bars, a lot of the visitors are walkers and tend to go to bed early, but there is nothing stopping you from staying on in your own bar or visit one of the other hotels which are all within a few yards. If you want to see a few photos of Fuschl go to www.stefanihof.at, although I have no connection with the hotel other than as a customer I took most of the pictures on the web site.

Firstly let me explain we have stayed in Fuschl seven times now and so obviously love it. You dont say when you are going but we have only ever been in summer.

In Fuschl itself dont expect anything much in the way of tourist type sights or things to do; it is a small village basically of one longish curved street.

The advantage of the place to my mind though is that it doesnt get day trippers so people in the village tend to either live there or be based there.

Like everything it depends what you like.

Fuschl lake is gorgeous, the gentle walks immediately around the village offer peace in meadows or around the lake. The lakeside restaurants attched to the hotels, including the Schutzenhof, are friendly, serve great food and have views that you couldnt buy elsewhere.

I would urge you to get out and about independently, explore, the people are friendly and hospitable.

There is a frequent bus service down to St Gilgen (10 minutes) situated on a large lake (Wolfgangsee) which is a nice village and where you can catch the ferry across to St Wolfgang; again pretty, historic and with many sights including The White Horse Inn and a steam railway up the mountain. Or you could stop in St Gilgen and get the cablecar up the mountain there for glorious views and walks and a little restaurant whose outside tables offer breathtaking views.

Schutzenhof itself will be fine for tourist visit (it has menus in English etc) it has a popular pizzeria outside right on the lake also, but really the hotels are all of a good standard. Try Hotel Schlick next door if you like fish, highly recommended!!!! If your trip includes meals, I%26#39;d urge you to skip one say and eat independently, the difference between the food served in the same hotels to package residents and independent guests can be substantial. Finally, use the local village tourist office, they are great, if you give it a fair try, get out a bit, you may well fall in love with the place....good luck, hope this helps!
