new years

Hi, I am going to be in Vienna on new years as well and was wondering for a first time in Vienna what is suggested. I saw on some of the other forums that we should go out to a nice restaurant. Does anyone have any suggestions? We also wanted to see an opera or concert, is one better than the other, once again any suggestion would be appreciated.

Most restaurants will serve you good food and thus would be %26quot; Nice%26quot; No need to find an expensive place unless you really want to.This one of the big Plus things in Vienna - the good food standard.

Many rstaurants have a fixed menu for this evening.

As Hundreds of thousands of people will be in the city center to celebrate try to eat at %26quot; Off Peak Times%26quot; if you go to a restaurant.

You will find many kiosks serving all types of food from Wurst to Crepes on the street too. Good and not expensive.

Many streets in the First District ( City Center)will be closed to vehicles and the area becomes one big party,

You will find maps to the various events at convenient information centers.

You can pick what you want to do.

All things will be in walking distance.

Events and music will start in the afternoon and continue until early in the morning.

To me, this is one of the best times to be in Vienna.

Have fun!

Look at the following sites for music events. It is hard to suggest any without knowing your interests.

www.volksoper.at

www.staatsoper.at

You will also find many concerts available to see as you walk the streets.

Vendors in costume will try to sell you tickets.

While not as good as the events found above- it may be fun.

Roley, another poster at this always recommends looking to the Church concerts.

You will see placards in front of Churches advertising these events.

Music is usualy of high quality.

Dress warmly, if you go- A Vienna Church has no heat. They are cold!

I forgot to mention a nice treat on New Years- A good Ball with excelent food, wine and music.

Look at

www.palaisevents.at/

will provide information on this great evening.

Non stop music to fit all tastes. Fantastic for those who like to dance and have a special evening on New Years at a realistic price.( still expensive )

A beautiful Ballroom permits spacious seating and a large Dance floor.

A large New Years Ball is also held at the Hofburg- however many are seated in rooms away from the main Ballroom and you have paid a large sum to be seated away from everything.
