Hi, we are staying at the Hotel Tyrolis in Zirl 23rd to 30th Dec. Can anyone advise us whether we would need to hire a car or can we access the ski slopes and city centre using public transport all through our stay?
Also, does anybody know of a picturesque christmas day train ride in the innsbruck area?
Thanks for any help.

Suggest that you E-mail the hotel. hotel@tyrolis.com
Axamer Lizum is the closest ski area to Zirl which is NW of Innsbruck. A map of ski areas is at: www.holidaze.com/images/innsbruckmap.jpg
In Innsbruck, free buses will pick you up at your hotel and then take you to a central staging point where you change to a bus going to a specific ski area. There is no need for a bus if going to Patscherkofel or Nordpark. Tram J runs from Innsbruck to Patscherkofel and Tram #1 runs from downtown to Nordpark.

About 40 minutes east of Innsbruck is the Zillertal Valley. A nice train ride is available from Jenbach ( the beginning of the valley and on the main railroad line from Innsbruck) to Mayrhofen.( perhaps 45 minutes -one hour long) This is a nice scenic ride through many nice little towns with good views of the mountains.
They also have a steam engine train that runs in summer and Holidays.
Check
www. Zillertal.at click on Zillertalbahn for more info.
An alternative is a trip to Seefeld , above the Inn Valley- perhpas a ride of 30-40 minutes. Seefeld is on a plateau and is a good place to visit-
