Alps Skiing

I%26#39;m going to be in Prague for a conference and was thinking of staying longer to do some skiing in the Austrian Alps. I was thinking of Innsbruck but the airfare prices were incredible. Would train be the way to go? Any other ski destinations you%26#39;d recommend? Is it worth going through Vienna and stay a few days? The conference is Jan. 20th.

The train is usually a better and less costly connection no matter where you go. But a long trip-

For skiing try www.ski-europe.com

this will provide a quick overview of some but not all ski resorts in Austria. And let you determine how your interests fit the resorts.

Without knowing your %26quot; Likes and Dislikes%26quot; it is impossible to recommend a resort as so many exist.

You should also think about which city you depart from to return home.

If you do not already have an airticket , look for possible connection to Prague from your home airport via Vienna . Then return from Vienna or another city. Example - Home city - to Vienna to Prague to Munich to home city. This type of ticket often is much less costly than trying to make separate flight inside Europe. January is a good time to visit-

fewer crowds and lower prices. February starts high Season again

Vienna makes a good interim visit- especially if you like musis, opera, museums.

However,if skiing is your major priority, it may be more convenient for train connections from Prague via Munich or Salzburg to a resort of your choice.

I know that this is blasphemy, but I DRIVE in Austria. I can get to about a dozen resorts from Innsbruck, and it is MUCH cheaper to get a hotel in Innsbruck than on the slopes. Plus, the dining choices in town blow away the resorts. I%26#39;m not a huge apres ski fan, so I don%26#39;t feel left out if I am not at the slopeside bar. Highly recommend the St. Anton/lech/zurs area. There are also 7-8 local ski areas surrounding Innsbruck, including the Solden glacier. These are really cheap to ski, and the runs are very nice. Kitzbuhel is about 40 minutes east. Back Feb 19th!!!

Weasel and Vertical; thank you!

I think the driving option is the way to go, and not being much of a apres-ski couple ourselves, staying in Innsbruck looks likes the best bet.

Thanks again
