Would anyone recommend Semmering as a day trip from Vienna? I hear the train route is beautiful.

This trip takes about 1 1/2 - 2 hours depending on which train you take- price about 20euros. While the train ride is very beautiful, especially in winter, there is not much to do in Semmering unles you are a hiker( in summer) or skier ( in winter)

I recommend visiting the city of Graz, which is the capital of the province Styria. Trains heading for Graz pass the Semmering region on the famous and protected by UNESCO railtrack (Ritter von Ghega railroad). If you are a hiker, you could explore a wonderful nature there.
