Salzburg and themagic Flute

Will be visiting salzburg from 20 to 25 October and wish to watch Mozart%26#39;s Magic Flute.

Looked on the internet but could%26#39;nt find any venues although ther is one on Oct. 27 in Prague at The Pargues Estates Theatre, but I simplu do not know the distance and time to arrive back and forth

Others more knowledgeable will doubtless respond, but as we%26#39;ve just returned from 3 weeks in Vienna, Salzburg, and Prague. I can tell you that Prague is a full day%26#39;s journey from Salzburg (and not an easy day, at that).

In Salzburg, the Marionette Theatre (puppets) repertoire includes Magic Flute. We attended the marionette version just last week, and it was charming -- not like the real thing, of course, but if you%26#39;re a Magic Flute enthusiast you%26#39;d enjoy it immensely.

In Prague, we attended the Estates Theatre production of Marriage of Figaro and enjoyed it immensely as well. If you%26#39;re a Mozart enthusiast, then anything at the Estates Theatre (where Mozart himself conducted both Figaro and Don Giovanni) would be thrilling to attend.

In Vienna (closer to Salzburg than Prague), both the Staatsoper and the Volksoper have Magic Flute in their repertoires this season, but I don%26#39;t know the dates. We attended the Staatsoper production three weeks ago and enjoyed it immensely too.

Yes, the production of die Zauberfloete at the Staatsoper at present is really lovely - lots of fun and wonderful singing. I want to see the Volksoper production too (hopefully in April) Unfortunately, neither are on during 20-25 October.

But I see Zigeunerbaron is on at the Salzburger Landestheater on 22 Oct - I%26#39;d love to go to that! But if you don%26#39;t want to go to Prague, I think your only other option is the Marionette theater at Salzburg.

BTW, via train it would take at least 6.5hrs to reach Prague from Salzburg. If you could stay overnight there before returning, it wouldn%26#39;t be too bad...!
