Spanish Riding School - March

We want to attend one of the morning training sessions. I did notice on their web page that their is an option that includes the traing session and a tour %26quot;with music%26quot;. It is more expensive. Is anyone familiar with the tour %26quot;with music%26quot;.

Perhaps Roley the SRS expert on this site is best qualified to answer this question.

I try to answer what I know.

All morning exercise is with music. It is held between 10 and 12 AM. except Mondays ?

In addition to the ticket for the morning exercise, you can buy a combi ticket for the exercise and a tour of the stables. If you like horses , the stable tour is very interesting.

People seem to line up much before 10 to get a good seat. Most of these early visitors leave after a Just my observation as I am often in that area .

Thank you Vertical.

Yes, I fugured Roley would post an answer to this soon.

As we get closer to March I will be making more posts on other facets of the trip.....restaurants, pubs, cafes etc. Appreciate your expertise in these matters.

Will be staying at Pension Pertschy based on all of the favorable opinions from this forum.

Oh yes, if it has four legs and a tail, I%26#39;m your gal! Uh, I think the music refers to the training session, not the tour! :) The tour is strictly talking only - and if you%26#39;re interested in seeing the horses in their boxes and hearing about the history of the Winter Riding School and the Lipizzaner, it%26#39;s very good. They do a combiticket which is slightly cheaper for the two events. They also offer a combiticket for the museum but that is pretty small with few exhibits - I think you%26#39;d get more out of the tour.

Vertical is right that the crowds usually disperse after the first part of morning training. However (to the diehard fanatic)it%26#39;s interesting to go early because they tend to work the more senior horses in the first two rotations (10-11.00) so you get to see some of the stars - and the latter two rotations (11-12.00) tend to be the young entry. Though you might feel one fat white Lipizzaner looks very like another -!

One tip - if the Josefsplatz entrance is open when you go to the morning training and you want to get be there for the 10am start, it%26#39;s worth buying your ticket and entering through the Josefsplatz lobby rather than through the main office on the Hofburg side. They seem to open those doors a little earlier (ahem you can see how often I go). The queue begins to form around 9.30.

It%26#39;s very cold in the Riding School especially if you sit for 2 hrs. Wrap up warm!

Rol. Still waiting for her free Lipizzaner after her 10th visit.

A little more about the morning exercise.

Actual exercises ( not open to the public) start very early in the morning.

You regularly see the horses being walked across the street from stable to Riding School- 6:30 - 7:00 AM.

This is a good chance for one to see the horses %26quot; Up close%26quot; as they parade from the stalls across the Stable Hof then across the sidewalk and street, assuming you like to be out that early.

Well - staying at Pension Pertschy, you can always pop out in your dressing gown! :) I used to hear them neighing in the morning when I stayed there. But you can also see them crossing back and forth to the Stallburg during the morning training, around the half hour between 10-12.00.

Rol, who narrowly escaped squishing when Favory Aquileja took exception to a passing bicycle.

I often walk my dog in that area early in the morning and see this migration- much nicer than with so many people later. The riders too are arriving and walking through that area at the same time- nice atmosphere.

Please no outing in dressing gowns- The Vienna Fashion Police are out early in the morning too.

Thank you for the advice. Don%26#39;t think we will be bumping into the fashion police.
