First Time to Vienna

I am planning a trip for next December and would appreciate any information you can provide. I would like to be in the heart of the city and stay at a nice, but moderately priced hotel. We will be there right after Christams and stay throught New Year%26#39;s. Any and all tips would be appreciated.

The city becomes full of tourists immediately after Christmas.

I would suggest making reservations early in the year as the hotels will be fully booked for this period.

As you mention , it is best to find a hotel in the center of the city.

You can easily determine this as the address of the hotel will have a postal code of A-1010.

This area is known as the First District or Innenstadt.

Many hotel-Pensions are there to fit your need.

Use this site to look for one you like.

Many of the visitors come from Italy during this time. They tend to eat their meals later than many.

You will find eating a little early for each meal avoids crowds.

Also try to visit major tourists sights earlier in the day to avoid crowds.

Be certain to visit one or more of the Vienna coffeehouses. Great places to relax, rest your feet, eat something and %26quot; People Watch.%26quot;

Vienna has a very good public transport system.

Buy a multi day ticket( 3-5-8 day) that will allow riding on all bus, streetcar and subway lines.A bargain.

Get a city trnsport map. It is very easy to find your way and all major places can be easily reached using the system.

Language is not a problem as Vienna is accustomed to tourists.

many restaurants will have english language menus too.

Trip Advisor has good information on the major tourists sights.

Must see

Hofburg Palace

Schonbrunn Palace

many excelent museums too.

Enjoy!
