Please recommend me a wine tavern

Hello To All, We will be in Vienna on 10.01.2006 and would definetely love to go to a Heurigen. Please recommend me a wine tavern either in Grinzig or anywhere with delicious food and wine. Do we have to make reservation before going? Approximately how may Euros do we have to pay per person? Are these wine restaurants serve fix menu or can we choose whatever we want to eat from a menu? Also transportation details to the recommended restaurant will be highly appreciated. Thanks

hi a real wine tavern is closed now.

the real one (owned by the wineyard owner) is called Heurigen.

They serve simple food only and their wine

A large version is a Heurigenrestaurant which is a normal restaurant in a typical style which serve from a normal menu card.

My favourite one is this one, but it is not in Grinzing

Prior poster does not really give you complete information as many heurigen are open

when you visit.

Two in Neustift am Walde owned by same family-

Fuhlgassl-Huber

Hauerkuchl

From the city center take streetcar #38 transfer to Bus 35A The bus stop is in front of these places address Neustift am Walde 68

Fuhlgassl- Huber has a buffet. Huerkuchj a buffet and a menu.

Excelent food and wine in each.

You can eat and drink for less than 20 euro per person.

For more information

www.fuhlgassl-huber.at

You can see the vineyards immediately behind these places.

If these two do not appeal to you if you visit , numerous other places on the same street are nearby that are good too.

One near Grinzing

Heuriger Muth - has a buffet original winery from late 1500`s.

www.heuriger-muth.at

Streetcar #37 to the end - then a short walk.

On the edge of Grinzing

Mayer am Pfarrplatz

Streetcar %26quot; D%26quot; to bus 38A then just a few stops and a very short walk up hill . It is on right side of square.

Buffet music after 7:30 - 8:00 PM

www.mayer.pfarrplatz.at

All the above are an easy taxi ride from city center 15+ minutes probably about 10-15 euro cost.

All will serve several varieties of white and red wine., Mineral water, Cola, tea and coffee too.

many more also in Vienna but these have good websites with directions and much information and are interesting places.

Unfortunately some places in Grinzing appeal most to tourists but are often more expensive

with wine that is not as good in my opinion.

............ lunch time is some people%26#39;s preference and many heurige become very touristy in the evening. Many heurige open after lunch!

A good lunchtime bet is Martin Sepp in Grinzing. Tram 38 from Shottentor to the end. Cross the road at Grinzing turn left nad walk a 100 yards or so. Need to book for Sunday lunch or arrive early. Modern rather than traditional.

Thank you all for the information. Is there local live music in these wine restaurants? We prefer to listen the traditional music with the good food.

Merhaba Eralp:

regarding music

Fuhrgassl - Huber usually has music after 7P. M.

Hauerkuchl does not have music except for special parties.

mayeramPfaarplatz has music after 7-7.30

However most of these places have several rooms and the musicians will move about.

You can request songs too.

I believe Martin Sepp usually has music after 7 PM.

These places are good to learn a little more about the culture of Vienna.

The usual patron is there for several hours of eating, drinking and conversation. A good time.

to Vertical.. all the address you mentioned are not real heurigen (Ausgesteckte) but only %26quot;heurigen restaurants%26quot;. I wrote that real heurigen are closed which is true.

|||

Funny- I was out last evening- a place with 4 tables- drank this years wine- cold buffet-it must have been open and fits the best heurigen description that I know of.
