Vienna/Salzburg for Summer Mozart Festival

I am trying to plan a trip to go to Vienna and Salzburg for the Mozart Festival this summer. I know it will be crazy, which is why I%26#39;m starting now. I will probably also be going to Paris or Prague for a couple of days.

Does anyone have suggestions for how long I should spend in each city (10 days total -- including Paris or Prague)? Best hotels (higher end)? Concerts/operas/shows to attend? Best dates to go (during the festival -- July 23 to end of August)?

Sorry for so many questions, but I%26#39;m just starting the process...

Thanks.

I can%26#39;t advise on Paris or Prague, them not being my stomping-grounds but if you want to go to Salzburg for the Festival I think about 3 days would do nicely - it%26#39;s quite a small place so that would give you time to see everything at a relaxed pace. But I usually work out my trips according to what it is I want to hear - and how long I have to stay there to do that! If you have a look at the programme of the Festival available at www.salzburgfestival.at you might be able to decide on exact dates (it%26#39;s possible to order tickets from the site also).

Conversely, Vienna is pretty quiet at that time of year as it empties out for the summer and the theaters and opera houses close during July-August (the museums etc are of course still open). There are a few things on during that period and the easiest way to find them is to look at the tourist information website database: www.nethotels.com/events/english/events.asp…

Depnding on what you fancy, you can see quite a bit of Vienna in about 3 days as a first visit.

Forgot to add some other sites for Vienna musical events: try

www.theater-wien.at which has information about summer festival events in July-August

www.konzerthaus.at

www.musikverein.at

These two venues stay open during the summer; have a look at their concert schedules.

The Vienna summer festival website (not yet updated) is www.klangbogen.at

It%26#39;s actually better in Vienna this year than usual because of the Mozart Festival - often in August it can be quite deserted!

Well, 4-5 days in Vienna, and 2 days in Salzburg will be o.k., leaving some time for Prague or Paris.

Hotels - Vienna: if you like tradition and some luxury, the famous Sacher, or the Bristol (both located next to the Opera House) would be your choice, or the Imperial (that´s where most foreign State guests usually stay), also on Ringstrasse in the center. Check

Hotels - Salzburg: the Sacher is most prestigious (you may ask Condi how she liked it after her visit on Jan.27, LOL); I like the SAS Radission, a smaller hotel in a historical century-old building in the city center. Quite a few good hotels. Book early.
