Oberlech- Hotel Burgwald?

Has anyone ever stayed at the Hotel Burgwald or Petersboden in Oberlech, Austria? My husband stayed at the Burgwald many years ago and we are interested in returning this winter.

i have not stayed there, but we always have lunch on the terrace at peterboden - it%26#39;s right next to the lift. they have a great stube . you know, oberlech is a no-car zone? you%26#39;ll have to get you luggage up on funicular? so getting back and forth at night is not so easy, although doable.

Oberlech is not hard to access as prior poster implies.

You simply ride the cable car from the base station in Lech to the center of Oberlech- then a short walk to your hotel. When you arrive at the cable car station for the first time, you can have your luggage transferred on the cable car direct to your hotel.

They , of course are accustomed to this as all guests arrive the same way.

Enough things to do in the evening in Oberlech - no need to go down into town- but if you do be certain to check the time of the last car back up. It is a long walk if you miss the last car.

To me Oberlech is a fantastic place to stay, ski in - ski out, quiet and a nice place for an evening walk after a good meal.

My husband and I are considering a ski trip to Lech in mid to late March. Have you been there at that time of year or do you know what the ski conditions tend to be? We do not like %26quot;spring conditions%26quot; and prefer firm snow. Would the conditions be better at this time of year in a place like Zermatt?

there%26#39;s usually a few good snowfalls in march.

but it does get warmer on south facing slopes.

it could be -5C on top in the morning and squishy soft and +5 by 3pm. also because of temp. change it gets icier. i was in st.anton twice in begin.-mid march. once valuga was a total heaven after a great storm, while south facing slopes were for a few days in total slush soon after. the other time it was 2 weeks after the snowfall - -2C, and quite hard on northern and a bit hard on southern slopes. zurs is always colder and icier, so are some reds in lech. however, there%26#39;s always a few trails with good conditions. march is tricky in general, but i don%26#39;t know of any other resort with better conditions then lech.

Just returned from Lech. Had a fantastic time. Spent a lot of time at the Petersboden outdoor bar. Can%26#39;t comment on the hotel itself as we stayed right at the base in the Tannbergerhof. It is wonderful and just across the street to the lift. Have fun.
